I spent most of the day at a labor day barbecue Drinking beer and playing horseshoes. You know , as long as i can remember my dad and my uncles drank beer and played horseshoes. As a child i remember knowing this was a family tradition. I'm not exactly sure how old this tradition is but I'm pretty sure it will continue. As my brothers and I who are all full grown, throw these rounded peices of steel at a stake, the kids pay attention to the competition and the boys especially want to join in.
It seems like a rite of passage or something. What the wives and girlfriends are doing during this, I have no clue. one thing is clear... Tradition is in danger of disapearing in our everyday lives. To some people, it's ok, but to me it's a shame. I bet there's some interesting anthropological insight to all this and one of my brilliant friends will add some perspective on this subject. Thanks, Mike
