Did the short sighted residents of New Orleans learn their lesson from Katrina? It seems so. The mayor, in a forceful press conference, called Gustave , the storm of the century and said that anyone who stays in N.O is on their own. This is an admission of guilt in their reaction to Katrina. Remember... no one left the imperiled city, no one prepared beforehand and the national guard sat idle. When a state has a natural disaster, the ring of response goes as follows, city, state, federal.....When the first 2 fail the 3rd is bound to look worse. The federal reaction did get the job done under unprecedented conditions. The city's recovery is still failing. With astronomical amounts of federal and private aid to Katrinas victims, most of the money was mismanaged , stolen or misused at the local level. I personally raised 5000 dollars.I won't be doing that this time. I'm gonna need more bang for my buck in the future. Maybe the time has come to rethink about living on a flood plain in hurricane alley. A city that re-elected a mayor that fail them horribly, when they needed him most, is most definitely a city of fools.
